Unless you are blessed with a full head of long hair you are most likely going to have to wear a wig to get a presentable/passable look. Most crossdresser’s first wig is a costume wig these are cheap, mass produced and unlikely to look realistic.
1 Synthetic Wigs:
Technically our initial costume wigs fall into this category. As with most things you get what you pay for. The more expensive synthetic wigs are generally passable and will last wear reasonably well. However they cannot generally be styled. For most casual crossdressers, who are only looking for a presentable look a good quality synthetic wig may be the way to go (I have several, though am looking at upgrading).
2 Human Hair Wigs:
Obviously these wigs are made with real human hair. Not only are they more realistic they can be styled if desired. When combined with a lace cap these wigs can be completely passable (this is what Hollywood celebrities use). Generally a factor of 2x more expensive then a comparable synthetic wig these are an investment, but one that will be worth it if you strive for completely passable look.
